Life Masks

Using their life masks, I completed a forensic/academic study of how these icons of history most likely appeared using Adobe Photoshop to add flesh, hair, and other details. This site features these forensic/academic reconstructions plus animations of these reconstructions bringing them to life. We will also share a little history and explore how these icons of history might have looked in daguerreotypes and photographs.

This page features the life mask reconstructions of the faces cast in plaster by John Henri Isaac Browere (1790—1834) and Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). See the archival art work of these pioneering artists come to life with photographic quality detail. Each post features a reconstruction of a life mask along with a little history to boot.

Select images are available as high quality archival prints.

Busts and Statues

Unlike life masks, busts and statues may not be an exact likeness of the subject.
